• Call for Board & Board Committee Members

Applications are being currently accepted for positions on CSAE’s Board of Directors as well as on a number of Board committees.

The Board, made up of highly-qualified directors from varied backgrounds, benefits from the contribution of different perspectives and experiences to promote better corporate governance. CSAE embraces diversity and inclusion and is committed to building an organization that represents a variety of identities, backgrounds, perspectives and abilities. We strongly encourage people from equity-deserving groups to apply.

    The Process

CSAE is endeavouring to improve its processes to remove barriers to applicants and increase inclusion and accessibility. With this in view, the following changes are being piloted as part of the application process this year:

    • There are multiple format options available for applying. Applicants can provide submissions in writing, or via audio or video recording. Those who prefer to have support completing the application may reach out to CSAE for direct assistance. (Links are provided below to the written submission process. If you wish to receive direct support completing the written application or prefer to submit an audio or video recording instead of completing the written form, please contact Melissa McGuckin at melissa@csae.com).
    • The concept of “experience” relative to the needs of the Board are being expanded, to better consider the value of an applicant’s lived experience.
    • Non-members are welcome to apply for a position on the Board. If selected, they will be required to obtain CSAE membership prior to the slate being presented to members. (A limited number of complimentary memberships will be available to those from equity-deserving groups to support their ability to join the membership).

These changes are a work in progress. They will be evaluated and future adjustments may be made with an eye to continuous improvement.

    The Positions

    Board Members

As a member of the Board, you’ll contribute your talents and progressive ideas to advance the strategic direction of the organization and drive its mission to deliver the knowledge, resources and environment to advance association excellence. By serving in a leadership capacity, you will further the priorities outlined in the new strategic plan, which positions CSAE to be:

    • The champion for associations in Canada,
    • The centre of excellence for the Canadian association sector, and
    • The model for continuous improvement for association management.

In identifying qualified candidates for nomination to the Board, the Nominating and Board Development Committee will consider prospective candidates based on merit with regard to those competencies, expertise, skills, background and other qualities identified from time to time by the Board as being important. As mentioned above, lived experience is valued and will be given consideration.

CSAE is currently accepting applications to fill five vacancies on the 2023-24 Board of Directors. Of these, four current directors are eligible to stand for re-election. To achieve the competencies required for the Board to effectively exercise its duties, CSAE may give priority consideration to applicants with an accounting degree/accounting experience and those with expertise or a degree in law.

Process for Applicants: Complete the application form and a competency self-assessment. Note: You are required to upload a PDF copy of your resume or a 200-to-250-word letter outlining your experience as part of the competency self-assessment. Click here to access the submission documents.

The self-assessment is organized around the following competencies: advocacy/government relations, financial management, governance, risk management and strategic thinking. Not all directors are required to be competent or subject matter experts in all areas.

Deadline: Submissions must be received by CSAE by 5 pm ET, on June 30, 2023

    Board Committee Members

In addition to the above Board openings, opportunities exist to lend your voice and expertise to one of CSAE’s Board committees, which directly support the work of the Board.

We are currently seeking volunteers for the following standing committees:

Recruitment and Selection Sub-Committee (2 vacancies): The Recruitment and Selection Sub-Committee is accountable to the Nominating and Board Development Committee and is responsible for the recruitment and screening of candidates interested in election to the Board of Directors, including the presentation of a Recommended Slate of Nominees, and for the recruitment and screening of committee member applications to the Board’s standing committees to ensure that CSAE is governed with excellence and vision. Committee members must be CSAE Executive Members and are ineligible for Board nomination during the duration of their term.
