• How is CSAE deciding what events can take place in person going forward?

CSAE’s planning is guided by public health decisions and information about reopening timelines in regions across Canada. CSAE continues to evaluate all options and risks to ensure that event-related decisions are sound and well-considered.

Appropriate lead times will be in place to responsibly plan events — with the health and safety of members, volunteers, and employees given priority consideration. This is essential given the uncertainties surrounding COVID-19 variants of concern, and to ensure the implementation of any new safety protocols that may be required.

Why is CSAE’s fall 2021 conference virtual?

Given the lead time required to plan for conference and the uncertainties around the anticipated public health situation in November, it was decided that the 2021 conference would be held virtually, November 9-11. This decision was made following a careful risk analysis, with input from the host city.

What about CSAE’s other signature events? Will they be in person?

CSAE staff and committees work behind the scenes to determine the best way forward on an event-by-event basis. The Governance Forum (Sept. 2021) and Symposium for Chief Staff and Chief Elected Officers (February 2022) have been planned as virtual events. CSAE Ottawa-Gatineau is currently exploring an in-person model for Tête-à-Tête, to be held in 2022. Details will be shared on all our events as they come available.
