    The Symposium for Chief Staff and Chief Elected Officers

    As the chief staff officer, you and your Board chair will spend a day building a common understanding and commitment to the key components of successful governance, strategy and organization. 

    You will work together to:

    • Define annual priorities
    • Learn how to work effectively side by side
    • Discover the value of informed policy and strategy as primary tools of leadership

    IMPORTANT: This workshop is specifically designed for chief staff officers (CEO, Executive Director) to work in partnership with your chief elected officers. Attending this event alone is NOT recommended.

    Facilitators

    Glenn Tecker is the chairman and co-CEO of Tecker International, LLC and has earned a reputation as one of the world’s most knowledgeable and practical experts on associations and not-for-profit organizations. Glenn’s practice focuses on redesigning the governance, operations and cultures of organizations to better fit today’s demanding and rapidly shifting environments.

    Donna French Dunn, CAE is an association professional with more than 25 years of experience. Her energy is directed to assisting associations of all types to be effective, responsive and forward-thinking. Sometimes called an association architect, Donna is especially focused on organizational design, developing effective Boards, supporting volunteers and staff through change.

    You and your Board will work together to:

    • Identify the Board’s accountability in the development of strategy and how should they collaborate with senior management in this process
    • Learn how the Board can contribute value by identifying potential areas that may require innovation and the development of an innovation plan
    • Explore how senior management should track the achievement of the strategic plan (and course-correct as appropriate) and how the Board can be engaged meaningfully in this process
    • Discover how the Board and senior management can engage in self-assessment to evaluate the extent to which it is fulfilling its responsibility in the area of strategy and innovation

Weiss, FCTDP, ICD.D is president and CEO of Weiss International Ltd., a firm specializing in innovation, leadership, and HR consulting for many Fortune 500 companies and public-sector organizations. David has delivered over 200 conference presentations and he has written over 50 journal and trade articles. He is the author or co-author of six business books including Innovative Intelligence (Wiley, 2011, also available in Chinese) which was one of the “Top 5 Business Books for 2011” reported by CBC News.  David currently teaches at four university executive development programs.
