    Barry Cavanaugh

    An accomplished association executive, Barry Cavanaugh is the CEO and General Counsel of the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) since 2007 and a previous Member of the Board of Directors of CSAE. Barry has a successful track record of leading several professional associations, including the Alberta Association of Pharmacists, the Canadian Bar Association – British Columbia Chapter and the Legal Aid Society of Alberta. Throughout his career, Barry has acquired significant experience negotiating affinity agreements with insurers and implementing successful affinity benefits programs. A lawyer by training, Barry understand how crucial it is to leverage the buying power of members when negotiating affinity agreements. Barry’s position is that affinity programs cannot exist without the critical contribution of an association and its members and this needs to be clearly reflected in affinity agreement. 

    Sylvain Dion

    Sylvain is the CEO and founder of the Dion Strategic Consulting Group Inc., a consulting firm specialized in group and affinity insurance programs for associations. Sylvain has more than 40 years of experience as an advisor and consulting actuary to his clients. Sylvain provides strategic, consulting and actuarial advice to a variety of associations, helping them optimizing their insurance affinity and benefits programs. Sylvain has experience with all insurance product lines, including  general insurance, employee benefits and life and health insurance. Sylvain’s unique approach enables clients to gain better control of their insurance programs, and maximize benefits to members and revenues to associations.

    Louis Guay

    Louis is the Program Manager for CSAE insurance services and the Head of Business Development and Marketing for Dion Strategic. Louis has over 30 years of experience in insurance in various roles. A lawyer by training, Louis practiced in the area of insurance defense litigation as well as corporate compliance, contractual law and claims management. In addition, Louis has experience in media relations/public affairs, government relations, sales and insurance affinity marketing and insurance program management. Louis gained an in-dept knowledge of insurance affinity agreements when he was responsible for managing the portfolio of Affinity Partners for Western Canada for TD Insurance. Having collaborated closely with various associations and worked in the non-profit sector himself during his career, Louis is a great resource for association executives who want to make better insurance decisions for their associations and members.
