• CSAE BC MLA Panel: Government Relations during the COVID-19 Ages

    Successfully navigating the government relations landscape is challenging at any time. Introducing a Government Relations program or advancing your existing government relations strategy during COVID-19 may seem impossible. 

    Recognizing that the government relations game is even more essential now, this session will provide association leaders with practical tips on effectively navigating their way through the government environment and influencing government policy decisions at the provincial level during these challenging times.

    Speakers

    Janet Routledge, MLA Burnaby North, Legislative Assembly of British Columbia

    Janet Routledge was first elected as the MLA for Burnaby North in 2017 and was re-elected in 2020.  She serves as the Chair of the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services. She also chairs the Government Women’s Caucus and represents British Columbia on the Steering Committee of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians, Canadian Region. Janet sits on the Government Caucus Committee on the Economy.

    Prior to running for public office, Janet worked in the labour movement. She started her career in the Public Service Alliance of Canada in the late ‘70’s. She organized members to solve workplace problems, win better wages and improve working conditions. More recently she served the BC Federation of Labour as their Director of Political Action. In addition, she represented workers on the federal Employment Insurance Appeals Board. She was granted commenter status in the National Energy Board hearings on the Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion.

    Damian Stathonikos, CAE, President, Building Owners & Managers Association – British Columbia

    Damian is the President of the Building Owners and Managers Association of BC (BOMA BC), the largest commercial real estate industry association in British Columbia. He provides leadership for the Association, representing an industry that contributes $3.5 billion annually to the provincial economy. Prior to joining BOMA BC, Damian was a senior association leader and worked as a public relations and government affairs professional. He is also a Certified Association Executive. Damian has lived and worked in Asia and Europe and calls East Vancouver home where he lives with his wife and two children.
