• As a member of the Board, you’ll contribute your talents and progressive ideas to advance the strategic direction of the organization and drive its mission to deliver the knowledge, resources and environment to advance association excellence. By serving in a leadership capacity, you will further the priorities outlined in the strategic plan, which positions CSAE to be:

    • The champion for associations in Canada,
    • The centre of excellence for the Canadian association sector, and
    • The model for continuous improvement for association management.

The Board, made up of highly-qualified directors from varied backgrounds, benefits from the contribution of different perspectives and experiences to promote better corporate governance. CSAE embraces diversity and inclusion and is committed to building an organization that represents a variety of identities, backgrounds, perspectives and abilities. We strongly encourage people from equity-deserving groups to apply.

    Eligibility

All members, in good standing, are eligible to apply.

    Recruitment and Selection Process

In identifying qualified candidates for nomination to the Board, the Nominating and Board Development Committee will consider prospective candidates based on merit with regard to those competencies, expertise, skills, background and other qualities identified from time to time by the Board as being important. As mentioned above, lived experience is valued and will be given consideration.

CSAE is currently accepting applications to fill 5 vacancies on the 2023-24 Board of Directors. Of these, four current directors are eligible to stand for re-election. To achieve the competencies required for the Board to effectively exercise its duties, CSAE may give priority consideration to applicants with an accounting degree/accounting experience and those with expertise or a degree in law.

Applications are reviewed by the recruitment and selection sub-committee. A Board slate is presented to members and Board directors are elected at the Annual General Meeting.

    How to Apply (applications closed)

CSAE is endeavouring to improve its processes to remove barriers to applicants and increase inclusion and accessibility. With this in view, the following changes are being piloted as part of the application process this year:

    • There are multiple format options available for applying.  Applicants may provide submissions in writing, via audio or video recording. Those who prefer to have support completing the application may reach out to CSAE for direct assistance.
    • The concept of “experience” relative to the needs of the Board are being expanded to better consider the value of an applicant’s lived experience.
    • Non-members are welcome to apply for a position on the Board.  If selected, they will be required to obtain CSAE membership prior to the slate being presented to members. (A limited number of complimentary memberships will be available to those from equity-deserving groups to support their ability to join the membership).

These changes are a work in progress. They will be evaluated and future adjustments may be made with an eye to continuous improvement.

Process for Board of Director applicants: Complete the application form and a competency self-assessment. Note: You are required to upload a PDF copy of your resume or a 200-to-250-word letter outlining your experience as part of the competency self-assessment.
